Middle school music textbooks include folk songs the most as singing materials for Korean music. When introducing representative folk songs from each region as singing materials, education on tori is proceeded. Tori is an indigenous musical features of each region and is revealed not only in folk songs but also in musical pieces of other genres that belong to the region. However, the current singing education of Korean music is too concentrated on folk songs and cannot be considered effective. This study identified problems of the 2015 revised middle school music textbooks. As a solution, it suggested teaching plans for Korean music enabling singing education and integrative education with the use of ‘Baettaragi’ the representative song of jwachang in Seo-do sori. In teaching of singing a refrain, the focus was on learning sigimsae. It was taught using Praat, a computer software for speech analysis in phonetics, so that the waveform of the sigimsae part could be seen at a glance. This will allow students to have a visual grasp of sigimsae, which is hard to discern simply from hearing. Furthermore, based on the educational areas and factors required by the 2015 revised curriculum, the study approached integrative education through dances, plays, and national history with ‘Baettaragi’. It is thought that systematic research and inclusion of Korean music singing materials from different genres in textbooks will enable more effective education on Korean music. Therefore, further studies on Korean music singing materials is urged, to which this study hopefully contributes.
