This study examined the educational values of the Korean shamanic music (gut) as teaching and learning materials for the realization of competency-based education pursued in the 2015 Revised National Curriculum. In this regard, it analyzed the extent to which the existing eight different textbooks are reflecting the Korean shamanic music. The findings of the study are as follows. Firstly, the Korean shamanic music has sufficient educational values as teaching materials in terms of the contents of competencies and domains and the achievement standards pursued in the 2015 Revised National Curriculum. Secondly, the Korean shamanic music accounts for just 5.8% of the total of 586 pieces included in the eight textbooks for the fifth and sixth grades. Thirdly, even when the shamanic music is selected as instructional materials, it is approached from a simple perspective of cultural heritage or partial techniques rather than as a comprehensive value embedded in the shamanic music. Therefore, to meet the goal aimed at the 2015 Revised National Curriculum through the comprehensive understanding of the shamanic music, more active interests and studies on the shamanic music are needed as reconstructive resources in the real teaching field. In particular, it should be accompanied by educational illumination and field-based research on new types of the Korean shamanic music such as village-gut or daedong-gut for fishing communities since they have been creatively passed down to these days by connecting the tradition of the shamanic music to the loves of modern people.
