Yeongsanhoesang has been chosen as a piece of music work for class use due to its musical tradition and inherent sociocultural values. The examination of the Yeongsanhoesang-related contents in the 2015 revised music textbooks for elementary and middle schools revealed that Yeongsanhoesang is mostly covered for the music appreciation domain, occasionally for danso and sogeu performances, or for singing lyrics put on its tune. As of teaching and learning contents, similar contents are presented without making any hierarchical difference by school level. These phenomena can be attributed to the lack of research on teaching elements for Yeongsanhoesang and the fact that the teaching elements are not extracted in various ways. To this, the study analyzed the teaching and learning contents pertain to Yeongsanhoesang covered in the music appreciation domain of music textbooks and the teaching elements of the 2015 revised music curriculum. Then, it selected essential teaching elements for Yeongsanhoesang in the appreciation domain and suggested teaching and learning contents by school level. The findings of the study are expected to provide a basic foundation for presenting teaching and learning contents variously and hierarchically at the time of doing further research on teaching-learning design and teaching plans by school level.
