The study aimed to understand the 2015 revised elementary music curriculum and to closely observe the introduction of the ‘music and health’ element in the domain of ‘musical application in daily life’ to music education for 5th and 6th grades. Based on this, it also aimed to develop and apply ‘a teaching-learning lesson plan through Korean music therapy,’ with the use of traditional musical elements, that could naturally combine Korean music therapy in regular music classes in conformity to the achievement standards of elementary music education, thus verifying the effectiveness of Korean music therapy through Korean music classes. To this, the study examined ‘music and health’ in the domain of ‘musical application in daily life’ of the 2015 revised elementary music curriculum and the revised content of music curriculum for 5th and 6th grades in Korean music education and analyzed teaching-learning methods and evaluation examples for each achievement criterion suggested in ‘the 2015 revised curriculum proposal development research II.' Combining traditional musical elements and Korean music therapy skills to improve concentration and creativity as a therapeutic purpose targeting 5th and 6th grades, the study verified its positive effect through developing and applying a learning objective and a teaching-learning plan that centered on group therapy activities. Afterwards, It proposed a practical teaching-learning plan that enabled Korean music therapy to be seamlessly introduced to the 5th and 6th music classes and sought new direction of Korean music therapy education in Korean music classes as follows. For the area of concentration improvement, the plan include the following activities such as listening to one’s favorite Korean music, singing while responding to one’s given role in a call and respond form of folk songs, waiting for one’s turn and then following teacher's instructions to sing in order, playing along rhythmic patterns and simple melodies, participating at Korean music activities such as ensemble, choir, dance in one’s turn, making physical expression to rhythmic patterns, expressing melodic contour, and learning an musical instrument. For the area of creativity enhancement, the plan included the following activities such as music composition, activities using a pentatonic scale, sculpture techniques for human figures, modifying lyrics, exploring rhythmic variations of lyrics, improvised performance, musical dialogue, melodic composition, and improvised singing. As a result of verifying before and after application of teaching-learning plan through Korean music therapy developed in this study, It was found that there was no difference in the effect of music education, but there was a remarkably positive healing effect on concentration and creativity improvement. This contributed to establishing a platform to perform Korean music therapy education in regular music classes, which used to take place out of music classes or during creative experiential time in previous studies. Also, the target recipients of therapy were restricted to a small number of groups, such as children from multi-cultural family, refugee children, children with special needs, and severely disabled students, but can be extended to all general students. The findings of the study confirmed the justification and necessity of Korean music therapy in which homeroom teachers and music teachers should share the genetic DNA and social DNA of 5th and 6th grade students during music classes, while not neglecting class maladjustment or lack of creativity due to the deterioration of concentration that can be found at an early stage. Therefore, this study has great significance as basic research that Korean music therapy, convergence of Korean music education and Korean music therapy education, can be presented as a new task to be made through the reorganization of music curriculum in the school education field.
